Surgery

Even though I thought January was going to be a pretty slow month, I was completely wrong. We got home and about a week later Cameron had to leave for about 2 months for some training. I went to the doctor and found out that I needed to have surgery on my shoulder. However, with Cameron gone there was no way I was going to be able to take care of Colby and get surgery. So I decided to go out to Utah to have the surgery and my parents were going to help with Colby. The doctor who did my surgery was great and he was able to fit me in right away when I got to Utah. I did however have to wake up extremely early to be at the surgery center by 5am.
This same facility is the same place I had my surgery to remove my gall bladder...so strange!
I am ones of those people who doesn't mind surgery...mostly because I get anesthesia and get the best nap ever! Some people when they come out of anesthesia can be hostile, some can be loud and obnoxious, but I just get the shakes. So after surgery the nurses covered me up like a mummy with warm blankets. (My mom was enjoying taking these pictures way too much!)
Finally they let me get dressed and leave to go home
One of the things that they gave me right before surgery was a nerve block. It pretty much numbs the right side of my body...well my arm and my face for up to 24 hours. So my eye is blood shot and my face is completely strange looking...as well as just looking strange because of all the gear I have on. I had an ice machine strapped to me for the first 36 hours that continuously pumped cold to my shoulder.
Here are the beautiful pictures of the doctors handy work
Totally hot I know! Sorry you all have to see these horrible pictures! Only one more I promise!
What makes this picture even worse is that I actually just took a shower and did my hair...but again no make-up, and a wonderful cold sore to add to this beautiful picture. Overall the surgery part was the easiest part of this whole experience. However, it seemed like that was where the "easy" part ended. After surgery I got thrush, got pretty sick, couldn't really sleep because I couldn't get comfortable, oh ya and my body basically went through withdrawls and detox trying to come off of the medication (which brought a whole lot of other problems). However, I really and truly am blessed to have had the help of my amazing parents! I don't know what I would have done without them and all they did to help me through all the rough and rocky roads of surgery and post-surgery. But also for all they did with Colby. I couldn't have taken care of them like they did! Thank you so much mom and dad for everything...I know a simple thank you isn't enough but please know I love you both so much for everything! I am currently doing pretty good, just doing a lot of physical therapy to help get my shoulder back to one day spike a volleyball again!
