A Night to Remember...

Recently Cameron and I were able to have a night out, and what a night it was. Our good friend Jen was so nice enough to come over and watch Colby while we went out. Since Cameron has graduated from The Air Force Academy he hasn't done too much with the Alumni. However, he got tickets to go to a dinner for all Air Force Academy grads in the DC area. I knew that it would be a great night and we would meet a lot of probably older grads and get a good dinner out of it but I never could have imagined the news we got just the day before the dinner. Cameron got a call from the president of the Alumni Association here in DC telling him that he was the youngest grad to be in attendance. The way it works in military functions is they usually place the youngest and the oldest at the same table. In this case it also happened to be the head table. Then we find out that the oldest grad at the table was H.T. Johnson and his wife. He happened to be in the first graduating class from the Air Force, then went on to have a very decorated career. He became a 4 Star General and also the Acting Secretary of the Navy. As I said before we were seated at the head table and also with guest of honor, which is General Norton Schwartz, Air Force Chief of Staff. WOW! So now this evening that I thought would be pretty low key, within minutes became a nerve wracking experience.
It all ended up being an amazing evening. I was seated next to H.T. Johnson and Cameron was seated next to General Schwartz' wife Suzie. The whole night H.T. treated me as a queen. He pulled out my chair, poured my drink, served me when the dinner came, and even leaned over multiple times to fill me in on the Military lingo. He was an amazing man with a great sense of humor. We were also very entertained by Suzie Schwartz most of the evening. She is a character, but it was great to see how her husband (who is a very powerful man) as he lovingly admired her as she was telling her stories. This truly was a night to remember for Cameron and I and it was a great experience that we felt lucky to have had!
